In Oregon, where an active lifestyle is often intertwined with appreciating holistic well-being, finding a healthcare provider that aligns with these values can be a journey. For many in Portland seeking not just relief from discomfort but a broader path to health, Common Ground presents a unique and comprehensive wellness cooperative. While often recognized for its popular bathhouse and diverse therapeutic offerings, Common Ground also provides chiropractic services as part of its integrated approach to health, catering to those who believe in supporting their body's natural healing capabilities.
Common Ground, nestled in the vibrant Northeast Portland area, is more than just a chiropractic clinic; it's a community hub for various wellness modalities. Their philosophy emphasizes that true health stems from a balanced body and mind, and their services are designed to address both. For Oregonians dealing with everyday stresses, chronic pain, or seeking preventative care, Common Ground offers an environment where different healing practices can converge. It’s a place where you can explore chiropractic adjustments alongside massage therapy, naturopathy, and other supportive treatments, all under one roof. This integrated model is particularly appealing to locals who appreciate a holistic view of health and are looking for comprehensive support on their wellness journey.
Common Ground is conveniently located at 2927 NE Everett St, Portland, OR 97232, USA. This address places it in a well-established and easily accessible neighborhood in Northeast Portland. The area is known for its welcoming community feel and proximity to various local businesses and amenities. For those traveling by car, street parking is generally available in the surrounding blocks, though as with any popular urban area, it's advisable to allow a little extra time, especially during busy periods. Public transportation is a strong option for reaching Common Ground, with numerous TriMet bus lines serving the Northeast Portland area, offering stops within comfortable walking distance of the clinic. Its location provides convenient access for residents across Portland and surrounding communities, making it a feasible destination whether you're coming from downtown, Southeast, or even parts of Gresham or Beaverton. The ease of access contributes significantly to its suitability for local Oregonians seeking regular wellness appointments.
Common Ground offers a wide array of wellness services, with chiropractic care being one of the core offerings, designed to promote holistic health and address various physical discomforts. Their approach integrates chiropractic adjustments with other therapies to provide comprehensive care. While specific chiropractic techniques are often practitioner-dependent within a cooperative model, the general services typically encompass:
- Chiropractic Adjustments: Manual or instrument-assisted spinal adjustments aimed at correcting misalignments, reducing nerve interference, and improving spinal mobility and function.
- Pain Management: Addressing acute and chronic pain conditions in the back, neck, shoulders, and other joints.
- Posture Analysis and Correction: Evaluating postural imbalances and providing adjustments and guidance to improve alignment and reduce strain.
- Soft Tissue Work: Often complementing chiropractic adjustments, this may include techniques to release muscle tension and improve tissue mobility.
- Wellness and Preventative Care: Focusing on maintaining spinal health, enhancing nervous system function, and supporting overall well-being to prevent future issues.
- Integrated Therapies: The cooperative model allows for seamless integration with other services like massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathy, and movement therapy, providing a more holistic treatment plan for patients.
- X-ray Analysis: As mentioned in patient reviews, the clinic provides facilities for X-rays to thoroughly assess spinal health, especially in cases of chronic pain or postural imbalances.
- Personalized Assessments: Initial visits often involve thorough assessments, including posture analysis and weight distribution checks, to understand individual needs.
Common Ground stands out in the Portland wellness landscape due to several key features and highlights, particularly for those considering chiropractic care within a broader holistic framework:
- Integrated Wellness Cooperative Model: This is arguably Common Ground's most significant highlight. Unlike a standalone chiropractic clinic, it offers a diverse range of wellness services under one roof, including chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathy, and more. This allows for a truly holistic approach to health, where different modalities can complement each other, all coordinated within a single facility.
- Thorough Assessments and Analysis: As evidenced by patient reviews, Common Ground employs detailed assessments, including posture analysis, weight distribution evaluations, and often offers X-rays, to gain a comprehensive understanding of a patient's spinal health and overall body mechanics. This in-depth initial review aims to pinpoint the root causes of discomfort.
- Emphasis on Education and Prevention: The clinic appears to promote chiropractic care as a form of preventative health. While some find the emphasis on long-term care surprising, others appreciate the focus on maintaining health beyond immediate pain relief and understanding how past issues, like birth trauma or long-held stress, might manifest in current physical conditions.
- Highly Praised Massage Services: The massage therapy at Common Ground consistently receives high marks from customers, often cited as a significant positive aspect of their experience, complementing the chiropractic adjustments.
- Friendly and Supportive Staff: Multiple reviews highlight the staff as "extremely friendly and easy to talk with," contributing to a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients.
- Commitment to Patient Progress: The clinic demonstrates a commitment to patient follow-up, as indicated by a patient receiving a phone call later in the day of their adjustment to check on their well-being, showcasing a dedication to ongoing care and support.
- Community-Oriented Space: As a cooperative, Common Ground fosters a community-led space focused on self-care, which resonates with Portland's community-minded ethos.

For Oregonians, particularly those residing in Portland, Common Ground offers a compelling and distinctive option for chiropractic care that aligns with the region's progressive and holistic wellness mindset. While some traditionalists might find its comprehensive assessment methods different from conventional chiropractic visits, its suitability for local users lies precisely in its unique approach and integrated services.

Common Ground's cooperative model, offering chiropractic alongside massage, naturopathy, and other therapies, appeals directly to locals who prefer a multifaceted approach to well-being. This allows for a more integrated and personalized health journey, where various aspects of physical and mental health can be addressed under one roof, reflecting a common desire among Oregonians for comprehensive, thoughtful care rather than fragmented treatments.

While some may find initial assessments extensive, many locals appreciate a provider who takes the time to uncover underlying causes, rather than just treating symptoms, aligning with a preventative health philosophy.
Finally, the positive experiences shared by many patients, highlighting the friendly staff, excellent massage services, and the perceived benefits of chiropractic care on posture, tension, and even digestive health, underscore its value to the community. The follow-up calls and clear commitment to patient care demonstrate a dedication that resonates with locals seeking a supportive and caring environment for their health needs. Common Ground Reviews
This is the first time that I've ever been interested enough to write a review, and sadly it's for a negative reason. I went here because of a Groupon that I purchased, expecting to get an adjustment and a massage. I even upgraded my massage to an hour, and was feeling optimistic. The "chiropractic session" was like nothing I've ever seen- I was subjected to a variety of bizarre tests involving weight, angles, and my ability to raise my legs when lying on my back. I also had to take my clothes off for an electrode analysis of the tension in my spine, and then I didn't even get an adjustment.I came in with no complaints (other than a need for a massage due to normal daily stress), but was told that it was possible that I was carrying pain from my birth, was holding stress from 5 years ago based on the "rings" in my neck, and that it would be a good idea to get x-rays of my spine despite being in no pain. I've heard the stereotype for years that chiropractors tell you that you need to come back forever even if things are fine, but I've never actually experienced one. Now, not only have I, but there was even a pamphlet in the lobby about why I should return even if I feel ok. The best analogy I could come up with was a snake oil salesman from the 20's. Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else for your adjustment. You should definitely go grab one of the pamphlets, though- my friends got a huge kick out of it.To be fair, the massage was lovely, which is the reason they get 2 stars rather than 1.
Aug 14, 2011 · Jessie EaganMy gf and I got the groupon and have to strongly disagree with the negative reviews. The staff is extremely friendly and easy to talk with. While I found the video a bit unnecessary, the rest of the assessments were very thorough. i'm a bit of a skeptic but my girlfriend has had lots of chiro done, so it was helpful to go WITH someone else and see their results too. While I didn't have serious pain, the posture analysis and weight distribution clearly showed an imbalance and increase in tension in my left side. The clinic provided FREE x rays for me and a discount for my gf. Their analysis of my back was totally consistent with what another chiropractor had told me. My girlfriend was able to see in her x rays the source of her chronic neck pain; an obviously reversed curvature from normal. The massage was excellent. My adjustment was my first, and had a clear effect on my head/neck, and digestive tract. I didn't know what to expect, but I am definitely interested in continuing treatment. Chiro as preventative health care makes a lot of sense compared to only treating problems after the fact. we even got a follow up phone call later in the day of our adjustment to see how we were faring. Considering that these folks only got half of the $49 from groupon, the level of service was absolutely outstanding. I'll definitely visit again.
