Robert Ratzow DC BA Introduce
For those of us living in Oregon, especially in the heart of Portland, finding a healthcare practitioner who is not only exceptionally skilled but also deeply compassionate and ethical can be a true gift. Dr. Robert Ratzow, DC, fondly known as "Dr. Bob" by his many grateful patients, embodies these qualities, having built a remarkable legacy of gentle and effective chiropractic care in the city for decades.
Dr. Bob's approach stands apart from many conventional chiropractic practices. He is celebrated for his profound understanding of how the body works, a knowledge base that allows him to artfully combine various techniques, including massage and craniosacral therapy, to provide relief that many describe as unparalleled. His focus is on being a "problem solver," aiming to get patients "back on track" efficiently, often needing only one or two visits, rather than prescribing lengthy, pre-paid treatment plans. This low-key and sincere approach has earned him immense trust and loyalty from the Portland community.
His dedication extends beyond individual appointments. For decades, Dr. Bob has been the chiropractor for the entire Portland Ballet Troupe, providing weekly maintenance and injury prevention care. This speaks volumes about his expertise in supporting the most demanding physical performance and his commitment to the health of our local artistic community. While recent reports indicate Dr. Bob has retired, his impact on the health and well-being of countless Oregonians, and the high regard in which he is held by those he served, makes his practice a notable part of Portland's chiropractic landscape and a benchmark for ethical, patient-centered care. Even in retirement, his legacy of excellence serves as an example for practitioners in the area.
Dr. Robert Ratzow's practice was centrally located in downtown Portland, making it highly accessible for individuals working, living, or visiting the city's core. His office was situated at:
833 SW 11th Ave #715, Portland, OR 97205, USA
This prime downtown address placed the clinic within easy reach of Portland's robust public transportation network. It would have been conveniently located near MAX light rail stops, multiple TriMet bus lines, and within walking distance of the Portland Streetcar. This ensured that patients from all corners of Portland and surrounding communities could easily access his services without the need for a car, which is a significant advantage in an urban setting.
For those who preferred to drive, downtown Portland offers various parking garages and street parking options, although typical for a city center, these would likely involve fees. The building itself, located on SW 11th Avenue, would have been part of the professional and commercial hub of downtown, familiar to many locals. The central location made it an ideal choice for quick appointments during work breaks or for those who preferred to combine their chiropractic visit with other downtown errands.

Robert Ratzow DC BA Reviews
Dr. Bob was simply amazing. Sadly, he has retired. He artfully combined massage and chiropractic medicine to provide relief unlike any other practitioner that I ever encountered. His gentle manner and quiet demeanor made him an ideal therapist; truly among the best I ever met. I was very sorry to learn that he had retired, but happy for him, personally.
May 25, 2024 · David BoeI happened to find out about Dr Bob when in a massage school with his son Kip a fellow student at the time.He mentioned his dad was a chiropractor who knows Craniosacral which is my passion and we were fairly new to Portland at the time (2004) so I began going and found out he has such a caring and deeply calming demeanor that I brought my whole family and many many of my massage and Craniosacral / polarity therapy clients over the past 15 years.Dr Bob is very present and skilled. He has worked on the entire Portland Ballet Troupe every Thursday for decades keeping these dancers in healthy maintenance and injury-prevention and reduction. That’s just plain good street cred. For me, knowing he was invited to Sundance—a Native American spiritual event that it’s a high honor for a white guy to be invited to—involving four days in the wilderness with no food or drink for example was super special about him.He is not one of these chiropractors who try to get a gazillion xrays and sign you up for a prepaid year of adjustments. Nope.He is a problem solver. And most people can see him once or twice and get back on track. He doesn’t try to book you again at all. So low key I really appreciate that and knowing when I refer people he is sincere and would never manipulate anyone. (I experienced the opposite at times with other DCs so I know how important this is.)A lot of people just live with a back or neck that is out of alignment because they don’t know that help is out there. I don’t blame them for not trying a Chiropractor because not all chiropractors are created equal like any other profession right? So this review is to say you will be in Good hands. If something has been out of place for along time you may need tune ups and follow ups and he might even show you a few stretches.(He prevented my son from developing scoliosis like that.)I rarely even need to see him because he is so good. Recently I overdid it in some land spiritual clearing I took on although it went extremely well!Dr Bob tailors his approach individually too and takes most insurance and will Bill them for you.He assisted my back in a holistic wise way and with a shamanistic element for my back recently and while not everyone will recognize this I happen to know it is powerful and felt a body, mind, spirit guidance within a few moments of the treatment. And again this is all done with Dr Bob Ratzow’s customary modesty and understated manner that is so supportive and caring of everyone who walks in his office.
Feb 21, 2021 · Sea CumminsI’ve been to many chiropractors over the years and Dr Ratzow is clearly the best. He takes time to assess the issues you’re having and then helps to correct them. I’ve walked in with pain and then out without it. He is caring Dr that will be very careful and gentle as back/spine manipulation can be very intimidating. I would highly recommend booking an appointment.
