Two issues:1) the DR himself (Weitz)2) the billing deptI will start with the DR. I went in for my first appointment & upon arrival Weitz checked me in and gave me the paperwork to fill out. He seemed to be in a grumpy mood from the second I arrived. So much so that I said something to his assistant (the assistant was lovely). She chalked it up him being "focused". Not very inviting for a new patient, but I dismissed it. Second to this, I am very pregnant. This didn't seem to matter much to him and I had to tell him on several different occasions that he needed to be more careful or the position he was attempting was not safe or comfortable for me/ baby. Nonetheless I did schedule a follow up appointment which is now canceled thanks to the billing department (Monica).Before scheduling the appointment I had reached out to confirm that they accept my insurance and the copay. (I've had issues with insurance in CA in the past so I always confirm ahead of time). When checking out, Weitz was unsure of my copay so I told him the amount based on what my insurance has outlined & what was previously confirmed.Following my appointment, Monica of the billing dept. reached out to notify the appointment copay was more than what she initially thought. When I said no its incorrect and that we had previously confirmed the coverage and copay she got extremely defensive and kept asking if I checked with insurance. (which this is literally her job - to check and confirm with insurance) I told her that I can send her a screen shot of the insurance details. At which point she continued with her defensive nature and demanded she was right and looking at the insurance details. Again, this was previously confirmed so I asked what changed and asked if she checked with the insurance company. It was confirmed by her that she had not called the insurance company. (Palm to face) I would think step one would be to call and confirm with the insurance company especially when, before even making the appointment, this was asked of her.I'm sure they will have some sort of rebuttal & that's fine however I will be taking my business elsewhere and this note is to caution those that choose Weitz & his team.

When I first went to Dr. Ben's office to get treatment for bicep tendonitis, I had already been through weeks of treatment at a highly-rated, well-known sports medicine center that gave me a cortisone shot that did well to alleviate the pain locally, but nothing to stop the referred pain that wrapped around my shoulder and added an unbearable amount of pressure on my neck. Their physical therapist wasn't much help there, though very kind, but you could tell she was probably overworked and seemed disconnected.Dr. Ben and staff are absolute miracle-workers! After week 1, I was already much better, and the exercises Dr. Ben prescribed were much more helpful than the exercises prescribed by the other sports medicine place.Big plus: It's probably the friendliest place I've patronized in years. The entire staff is so helpful and sweet. Dr. Ben has excellent bedside manner, is friendly and caring, but will also make sure you're taking care of your health. It's really like a small town feel right in the heart of SaMo.Another big plus: Dr. Ben has reserved spots for patients. When do you see that in a place like Santa Monica where parking is a scarce? It alleviates that bit of stress we all feel when trying to get to an appointment. Nice touch!

Dr. Weitz is incredibly knowledgeable and gregarious to boot. I first went to him following a shoulder injury for which I had already been seen by a number of specialists. The regimen prescribed to me by Dr. Weitz was the most efficacious treatment I received. I am now back to living a life free of constant shoulder pain and contraindication of my daily exercise routine. Thank you Dr. Weitz!
