Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents of Chicago, particularly those with active lifestyles or a history of complex injuries, Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine is a name that stands out. Located on W Hubbard Street, this practice is not just a typical chiropractic office; it is a specialized center for advanced care, drawing on a deep understanding of human biomechanics and physiology. The clinic is renowned for its founder and director, Dr. Josh Akin, whose reputation and expertise are highly praised by patients and professionals alike. His unique approach combines extensive knowledge with a keen observational ability, allowing him to create highly effective, personalized treatment plans. This dedication to excellence is evident in the remarkable stories of patients who have found relief and a renewed quality of life after years of struggling with chronic pain and complex conditions.
The ethos of Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine is one of progressive, patient-centered care. Dr. Akin is described by one patient as "the smartest person I ever met" and a professional who has an "uncanny ability to understand you and your biomechanics by simply observing you." This observational skill, combined with a commitment to continuous education, allows him to stay ahead of the curve in treatment techniques. The practice focuses on understanding the root cause of a patient's pain, rather than just treating the symptoms, which leads to more durable and life-changing results. For a patient who had lived with spina bifida and a fusion between their L4 and L5 vertebrae for 18 years, the impact was profound. After just a few weeks of seeing Dr. Josh, they went "3-5 days at a time without even thinking about my back," a testament to the effectiveness of the care provided.
What truly sets this practice apart is Dr. Akin’s unique background and experience. His work with professional athletes, including his tenure as the team chiropractor for the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, demonstrates a level of expertise that is rare to find. This experience translates directly to the care of every patient, from elite athletes to everyday individuals dealing with pain. The trust placed in him by professional sports teams speaks volumes about his capabilities. One patient's sensational, yet genuine, remark—that if Dr. Josh "told me to jump off a bridge today, I’d find the nearest bridge"—perfectly captures the immense trust and confidence he inspires. This trust is built on a foundation of not only exceptional skill but also a kind and progressive demeanor that makes patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment plan. The clinic is a place where you can feel like you have a "legit plan to get your life back," a promise that is consistently delivered.
In addition to Dr. Akin, the clinic is staffed by a team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals, which is also mentioned in reviews for their other locations. This collaborative environment ensures a comprehensive approach to patient care, with practitioners who are committed to helping you achieve your health goals. The combination of advanced education, professional sports experience, and a deep-seated passion for helping people makes Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine a top-tier destination for anyone in the Chicago area seeking truly exceptional chiropractic and sports medicine services.

Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine Reviews
back pain
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been going to Dr Akin since he started right out of school. Since I’ve moved out of state, but always make an appointment part of the trip back to Chicago. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable he keeps ahead of the pack with education & it translates to treatment of the patient. The Kenilworth office is really nice! You will certainly receive great care here.
Aug 19, 2024 · Maisa RouzerI’ve started to look at my life as: before I met Dr. Josh and after.Dr. Josh may be the smartest person I ever met. I’ve spent 18 years post rugby/football career with spina bifida/a fusion between my L4 and L5. I’ve been to doctors, specialty and PTs that all tried their best. But now, after just weeks of seeing Josh, I go 3-5 days at a time without even thinking about my back (pain, not being able to bend, etc). Josh has an uncanny ability to understand you and your biomechanics by simply observing you. He combines years of experience with an absolutely insatiable appetite to fully understand the human body with a kind/progressive demeanor. I know it will come off as sensational, but I told him this the other day, and stand by it: I’ve never met a professional that understands the human body more, that if he told me to jump off a bridge today, I’d find the nearest bridge (and likely solve some other bodily issue while doing it).Josh is a saint. His credentials are readily available (including his work with professional ball clubs), takes all the standard insurance (I honestly was worried most after seeing him that my bill would be in the thousands given his quality of care, but, with my insurance ended up like 35 bucks out of pocket) and is in a super convenient area (essentially grand and Ashland, very close to both 94 and 290).I never do this, but I’ve also never met a medical pro like Dr. Josh…if you’re like me, and feel “you’ve tried everything” and nothing seems to work, at least meet with Josh. I promise you, you’ll come out feeling like you have a legit plan to get your life back.
May 25, 2024 · Ryan NewmanI had a bad case of tennis/golf elbow that was diagnosed by my first specialist as inflammation. Three months of rest and treatment made no improvement, so I sought a recommendation from a friend and was referred to visit Myles Nagel at CCS. Myles took his time analyzing the injury and diagnosed it was a tendinopathy, not inflammation. He explained that no amount of anti-inflammatory treatment would make any improvement, but that there was a combination of treatment and various of strengthening exercises that could improve my elbow. Over the course of a couple months, my elbow steadily improved and now feels back to 100%. He truly cared about fixing the entire issue, which was impacted by shoulder and wrist stability, as well as mobility. Myles never felt rushed, followed up between appointments with different exercise videos and instructions, and genuinely wanted to improve my elbow pain so that it never recurred. I'd return to him in a heartbeat if I need to in the future, but he did such a good job that it might be awhile.
Apr 17, 2021 · Dan WalshDr. Nagel was instrumental to my recovery and getting back to being active. He thoroughly explained the causes of my back pain and provided helpful exercises and stretches for relief and strength training. I am running better than ever now!
Jul 16, 2021 · Paulina PerkausAfter about 10 months of trying other methods, including physical therapy and other chiropractors, Myles was able to help my back pain within a week. I was back to playing basketball within 3 weeks - I would recommend Myles to anyone with any type of injury.
